Brie Wrapped in Puff Pastry & Baked Recipe

This hors d'oeuvre is so easy to make and always gets rave reviews. It's perfect for a party !
Buy some slivered almonds, a jar of preserves, a box of frozen puff pastry and a wheel of brie. The brie can be found in the dairy case. It will come either in a little can or in a round wooden box. The wheel of cheese should be no more than 4 inches in diameter.

To make the pastry-encased cheese look even more spectacular, cut decorations from scraps of leftover pastry and ``glue'' them to the top with a mixture of one egg yolk beaten with a tablespoon of water. Brush the entire surface with the egg mixture before placing the cheese wheel in the oven. The ``egg wash,'' as it is called, turns the pastry a gorgeous, golden brown.

When you get home, place the pastry in the fridge instead of the freezer. About 15 minutes before party time, slather the cheese with preserves, sprinkle it with toasted nuts, and wrap it in a sheet of the thawed pastry.

Bake your hors d'oeuvre in a 350 degree oven for 25 minutes; you'll have a mahogany-brown pastry wheel oozing with melted brie, apricots and nuts. Yum. Serve immediately.

An almost infinite number of versions can be made by varying the preserves and nuts. Make sure you toast the nuts for the best flavor. Spicy jalapeno jelly and pinon nuts are a good combination. Or try orange marmalade and walnuts, served with ginger cookies instead of crackers. Apricot preserves and pecans are delightful !
