Hard Candy Hearts or Any Shape

Makes 12

If chocolate doesn't satisfy your sweetie's sweet tooth, then this may be the bouquet for you. These hard candy hearts will make the sweetest bouquet of all.

Begin by preheating your oven to 450 degrees, and spraying your foil-wrapped cookie cutter (or mold) with a non-stick cooking spray. Place on a baking sheet.

Next, using a mallet or hammer, smash the hard candy so that it's well broken up. To keep from having candy fly everywhere, do your smashing with the candy still in its wrapper.

Pour the candy pieces into your cookie cutter placed on the baking sheet, using different colors in different spots. You need not fill the mold, just make sure the bottom is well covered with candy. Pop it into the 450 degree oven for 3 minutes, or until the candy melts.

Now take the melted candy out of the oven and let it cool. The candy should harden rather quickly. Once the mold has cooled, the heart should pop right out. Now, we'll need some hard candy "glue" to attach our skewer "stem."

For this you'll need to place a bit more smashed hard candy in the oven to melt. To attach the skewer, dip it into the melted candy, and simply attach it to the back of your hard candy heart.

The final step is your arrangement. To create the bouquet, arrange your stems as you would any non-edible bouquet! For a base, you can use oasis foam or a small vase. Be creative! This will be the sweetest bouquet you'll make this year . . . Happy Valentine's Day!
