I developed a system for getting the air bubbles out--strain the buttercream before it sets. When I used to make pottery, the glaze was always filled with airbubbles which would cause problems in the glaze. The final pot would have popped air bubbles thoroughout--not a pretty site. We used to strain it through the finest sieve we could find. It works every time! Let me know if it works for you!
